Propane Safety
Safe operation is the standard Avenir holds every commercial installation to. Propane is one of the safest fuels available when it’s sized, installed, and maintained correctly, which is why only a qualified propane technician should ever service tanks or appliances. Never attempt repairs without a technician. Avenir will send a qualified technician to assess the situation.
Detecting a Propane Leak
Propane is treated with mercaptan, giving it a distinct “rotten egg” smell that makes a leak easy to identify quickly. If that smell is present, here’s exactly what to do:
Don’t Panic
Leave the area immediately in an orderly manner if you suspect a propane leak.
Shut Off the Propane Supply
Turn off the tank supply by turning the handwheel clockwise (to the right) as far as possible unless the leak appears to be coming from that area.
Avoid Flames, Sparks and Electricity
Extinguish flames and do not use lights, appliances or phones.
Call for Help
Contact the fire department or dial 911 from a safe distance (at least 20 ft from the source of the leak).
Do not re-enter the area until it is deemed safe. Contact Avenir Energy to have a technician turn the propane back on to check and re-light your appliances.

Regular Maintenance

Know the Signs
Propane should always burn clean with a blue flame. Yellow or irregular flames, or soot around an appliance, are signs the propane isn't burning properly and could allow carbon monoxide to be released.
Install Detectors
Carbon monoxide detectors placed near propane appliances monitor air quality and provide an early alert in the event of a leak. If a detector activates, the property should be vacated immediately and 911 contacted.
Ventilation is Key
All appliances should be properly vented to the outside to prevent carbon monoxide buildup. Outdoor propane appliances, such as grills and generators, should never be used indoors or in an enclosed space.

What are the dimensions of a 500 gallon propane tank?
10 feet 1 inch long, 4 feet high and 38 inches in diameter, holding 1,514 L. It must sit 10 feet from any building, property line and source of electricity, and trenching is required to run the line to the appliance.
What are the dimensions of a 1000 gallon propane tank?
15 feet 11 inches long, 4 feet 4 inches high and 41 inches in diameter, holding 3,028 L. The vertical version holds the same 3,028 L but stands 18 feet high on a 48 inch base with a 40.5 inch diameter, which suits a yard that cannot give up the horizontal run.
Is there a 2000 gallon propane tank?
Yes, and it is the largest format Avenir installs. It measures 22 feet 8 inches long, 4 feet 10 inches high and 48 inches in diameter, holding 6,435 L. It is built for large industrial facilities and agricultural operations such as crop drying, and it needs 25 feet of clearance from any building rather than the usual 10.
How many litres does a 420 lb propane tank hold?
363 L. It stands 4 feet 5 inches high and is 30 inches in diameter. It is the only format that can be placed against a building, and up to four can be tied together to add capacity without taking more ground.
